Tangjiazhai Reservoir was built in the 1970s, and once undertook the irrigation task of thousands of acres of farmland in surrounding villages. Since Jiangcungou landfill was built less than two kilometers upstream in 1994, it was quickly polluted by landfill leachate and became a stinking ditch, which seriously affected the lives of nearby villagers.
In the first four months of 2017, as the key supervision project of the Central Environmental Protection Inspector Group, the Inspector Group requested Xi ‘an to rectify Tangjiazhai Reservoir polluted by leachate from Jiangcungou Landfill, and the rectification should be completed by the end of December 2017.
Shaanxi Environmental Protection Group Ecological Construction Company undertakes the task of rectification. Speaking of the process of the treatment project, Pang Zhengxi said frankly that the construction is very difficult in the face of the problems of sludge deposition and accumulation for more than 20 years and the inability of large machinery to enter the site at the same time. After comprehensive treatment projects such as solidification and landfill of sludge in the pond, anti-seepage treatment and construction of artificial wetland water circulation system, on April 16, 2018, the national environmental protection department officially completed the acceptance and cancellation of this project, and the former stinking ditch became a scenic spot today.
